So over the last few weeks I've started working for a guy I know a few days a week. He is a car dealer who buys and sells cars, but only really between dealers and wholesale type stuff, very little end customer deals. It's definitely a neat business and I'm more doing it to learn how all of that works than to actually make any real money. My job typically includes running errands like picking up cars/people/parts, helping him go over prospective cars and seeing if they're worth buying, cleaning out cars we have bought, occasionally some mechanical stuff, as well as the book keeping and mundane stuff like posting ads and dealing with customers.
Since all of this started I have done a few things I NEVER thought I would have. On my first day working for him I bought a Prius, with over 200K miles. We actually deal a lot in hybrids and TDI's, he has a relationship with another dealer that works somewhere that those are a pretty hot commodity. It's very interesting seeing all of the different vehicles, what they go for, and how much the market fluctuates based on instantaneous demand. I'm not really sure where I'm going with all of this, but it was quite car related so I figured I'd share, if anyone has any questions feel free to ask and I'll try to do my best to answer them. For your time I offer that pile of tetanus above that was in the transporter parking at one of the auto auctions we go to!

Sounds sweet- I'd much rather be doing what you're doing (if I could make it pay what I'm getting now that is...)
How do you see yourself in ten years? Will you become a "Richard Rawlings" or a "Wayne Carini" (or mt personal favorite flipper, Mike Brewer?)

Oh God, that poor Studebaker. No saving that at all...

might make a good race car. Tubular subframes, big block, tubs. Back halved obviously.

sounds like you are playing a real life, legal version of Dope Wars

There was literally nothing under what was left of the body, I want to know why they even had that at the auction to begin with.

Because racecar. Plop it on a prebuilt chassis, bam, race car. I bet they could get some money for the trim and glass even.

It's... a job. While it's nifty and I like cars it means putting up with beige every day and trying to be excited about it. And the money isn't amazing, but I'm in it for the experience.
And in ten years, I see myself doing absolutely nothing like this, by then I'll have my degree finished(should be only another year) and I'll be working a desk job somewhere.

I think you'd be better buying fiberglass replica panels at that point, no amount of welding back together would resurrect that thing.

If you can get glass panels for them. I might just be really stubborn. Have you seen my Capri?

I was just looking at that post, one of my good friends is like that about cars, he has the most rusted out and crappy 4 cyl Jeep and refuses to do anything besides fantasize about what all he could do with it.
Are you rocking the 2.3 in the Capri? We actually have a decent bit of experience with that motor, we run it in our Mustang lemons car. Got a garage full of parts for them too.

They never came with a 2.3, but i do know a guy who dropped a 2.3 Trubo coupe motor in his. Mine is getting a 3.0 Litre SHO V6 out of a taurus. I didnt have an engine when i got the car.

Happen to have an M5OD-R1 transmission, i need one for the SHO.

Yes they did... They had both the NA 2.3 that we run, as well as the SVO 2.3. All Lima platform motors were pretty much the same from like 79-96. We actually have a spare motor we pulled out of a Capri.

That would be much better than the NWC T-5 we run with no 2nd gear synchro.

Wait, are you talking about the Fox body Capri or the Euro Capri? Because there was a 2.3 V6 in the euro Capri Mk1 and 3, but no 2.3 4 cylinder. The '83 that im going to look at tonight probably has the 2.3 4 cylinder. Pictured below is the European Capri.

I didn't know there was a difference between the Euro and US ones as far as engine choices go, you learn something every day. The NA 2.3 is a damn stout motor, ours has been overrev'd, run without oil, overheated, and never seen any driving other than on track and is still going strong.

They are awesome motors. As for the Capris, they are completely different cars.
Fox body Capri, better looking Mustang,
Ford Capri of Germany, stock US Model and modified German model from the DTM
